Psychotherapy

Fees £120 per session, invoiced monthly, paid by bank transfer.
Session length 60 minutes.
Frequency Sessions are usually weekly, taking place on the same day and time each week.
Duration The duration of therapy can vary. Some people find a focused piece of work over a few months is what they need; others work with me over a longer period. It can be open ended when that suits what you are looking for, but we work with certain goals in mind and have periodic reviews to ensure you are moving towards them. There's no minimum period, and you can end the sessions when you feel ready. I request at least one pre-planned ending session to bring the work to a close.

Enquiries

If you'd like to enquire about working together, send an email to jim@jimclarktherapy.com outlining which modality you are interested in, along with any questions you might have. When you are ready, I will send you an intake form for you to complete and arrange a date for an initial consultation.

Cancellations

48 hours' notice. For cancellations made with less notice, the full fee will still be payable.

Location

All sessions take place online using Zoom or VSee. With a few simple preparations, working online can be just as effective as working together in person. Please call in from a private place where you won't be disturbed, with a good internet connection, and read the guidance for working online before we begin.

Frequently asked questions

What happens in the initial consultation?

The initial session is a chance for us to meet and get a sense of whether working together feels like a good fit. You share what's bringing you to therapy or mindfulness training, and I can let you know whether it feels like something I can help with. I usually ask you to complete some questionnaires before the session, and you are free to ask me any questions about how I work. There's no obligation to continue after that session, and no pressure to decide immediately. If it's a clear yes, we can go ahead and book the next session in. If either of us needs time to think, we can take that time with a view to coming to a decision within an agreed timeframe.

Do you offer a sliding scale/reduced rates?

I have a limited number of spaces available at a reduced rate. This is reserved for people who genuinely cannot afford the full rate and specifically want to work with me rather than find another therapy or mindfulness training at lower cost. If you want to work with me and finances are a genuine barrier, please feel free to enquire. Kindly remember it is to help increase access to therapy for those who need it, not just to get a lower price.

What's the difference between therapy and mindfulness training, and how do I know which is right for me?

The psychotherapy and mindfulness pages both describe what each involves and who it tends to suit. There's also a comparison table on the Choosing page that sets out the main differences. If you're still unsure after reading those, the best thing is to get in touch. A brief email exchange is usually enough to point in the right direction, and if you are thinking of mindfulness training, the initial session is designed in part to help clarify suitability of the training for your needs.

What if I've never tried therapy or mindfulness before?

That's completely fine. Neither requires any prior experience. The initial session is partly about getting a sense of what would be most useful for you and how we might work together.

I've tried mindfulness before but it didn't work for me — will your training be different?

The individualised format I offer is different to learning in a group, or from a book or app. I can offer adaptations to the practices in response to your particular needs which will probably give you a different experience than you've had before. Read more about the mindfulness training

Do you teach mindfulness in groups?

I am not organising mindfulness group courses at the moment. However, if you have a small group of friends or colleagues and would like to arrange your own small group, or you'd like to do the course with a family member or partner, I'd be happy to discuss the possibility of organising something for you. Please get in touch with your proposal and I'll let you know if it's something I could support you with.

What are ACT, CFT, MBCT, and the other approaches you mention?

Each is explained in context on the Psychotherapy and Mindfulness pages.

Can I pay with insurance?

I'm afraid I don't accept payment by insurance. All sessions are self-funded.

Do you offer a free initial consultation?

I don't offer a free initial session, but you're welcome to send an email with any questions before booking. I aim to reply within two working days.
